Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the doctor to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided fall outside the scope of the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

• Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
• Insurance claim forms
• Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
• Private sick notes
• Vaccination certificates

Our reception staff will be happy to advise you about appointment availability and applicable charges.

All babies should receive a 6 week check in order to carry out a general examination. This is done by the GP, at the same time we also offer a postnatal check for new mothers due to limited appointments with the Locum Nurse please call ahead to arrange this with the reception staff.

If you have recently had a baby, please contact reception in order to make an appointment.

Community Link Workers provide a person centred response to low level stress and anxiety caused by social stressors. Working collaboratively with patients to identify issues and barriers, identify community resources or self-help resources. Follow up appointments are offered to patients who wish to engage. The follow up appointments are to ensure the patient has successfully linked in to services and helps us to monitor improvement in people’s wellbeing.

An example of some of the referral criteria for the Community Link Worker, there is more than what is listed below:

· Housing issues 

· Welfare and benefits issues

· Social isolation/ No family/friend support

· Cancer/Long-Term Conditions/Disability

· Bereavement /Trauma support

· Carers

· Low confidence/self esteem

· Employment

· Domestic Abuse

· Leaving prison and needing support

We have a Primary Care Mental Health Liaison Nurse who reviews patients in the Practice on a Tuesday morning.  This is for mild to moderate mental health issues.  

All referrals to the Mental Health Liasion Nurse have to be through the GP first for them to refer you onto the service.
